Surge Protection For Home Appliances/Electronics

Protect your home appliances and electronics from power surges that can occur from damage to power lines by animals, accidents, and severe weather conditions. Lease a surge protection device that DES attaches to your meter to direct surges to the ground instead of into your home.

Residential customer must sign a two-year Application-Contract. Surge protection contract is transferrable to new owner. When the contract term expires, the surge protector is billed on a month to month basis and is eligible to be removed if desired by customer.

Process: After receiving the completed Application, our technician will take an Ohm ground measurement at the meter to make sure it meets safety requirements for installation. Customers will be notified in writing if the ground passed and surge device was installed, or if the ground test failed and what correction measures are needed before we can install the surge device.

Cost: Your meter service amps will determine the cost, $6.00 per month for 200 Amp service and $9.00 per month for 400 Amp service. Certain types of meters may not qualify for installation of the surge device.

Warranty: Limited warranty coverage is provided by the manufacturer for a defined list of home appliances and electronics, some exclusions apply. Once installed, you will receive written instructions on replacement and filing a claim should any of these items fail due to a power surge that passes through surge protection device.
